You couldn't go because you had caregiver duties. I'm the primary caregiver for my vax (childhood schedule) injured adult son. It's difficult to find substitute carers and even though I'd love the art or music it would be hard for him to participate. We try to stay connected and we are fortunate that he has an excellent day program (very rare and we had to move states to find it.) Chicken or egg? He is the gift. The "autism" is not.

Thank you for this comment, Jody. So many caregivers are isolated, especially parents of children who have been disabled by vaccines and other medical missteps. Compound this with a lack of understanding and empathy on the part of the general public, which is encouraged every day by a pharmaceutical industrial complex making money off damaging children (and adults), and it’s hard to feel like you can ever leave the house. It’s important that people who are not dealing with profound difficulties and isolation be more aware of those who are. I can only imagine it must be hard to go to the grocery store, let alone to a cultural activity. All of that said, if there is anyway to find the support you need to make some time for yourself, your health and well-being will likely benefit (except you may be stressed about your son the whole time. Real life is a lot messier than scientific studies with neat claims…)

As a GP for nearly fifty years I believe it’s the other way around. Those who are aging slowly particularly from a mental and emotional point of view are more socially aware and don’t shun the world , they are going to live a longer and better quality life. Young at heart is perhaps a genetic or life style result but very real.

I think this makes sense, Dr. Waters. It's a little bit of a nature-nurture debate, isn't it? Hard to ascribe cause and effect. But I do like the take-away: enjoy the arts with other people.

Tell me about your event in Italy later in the year.

I’m co-hosting and teaching a writing retreat in Tuscany for high-level writers and highly motivated aspiring writers. My speciality is nonfiction books about health and science-related topics and helping M.D.s and Ph.D.s translate complicated science into readable prose. Last time we had memoirists, nonfiction writers, and 2 novelists. The retreat is being held in a villa just outside one of the nicest small cities in Tuscany. October 10 to 16. Here is the link to more information: https://www.maitriverde.com/writing-under-the-tuscan-sun. Early Bird special ends July 31st.

Very interesting. Ian in the process of writing a book about the Covid hoax from the perspective of a 40 year GP who lost his career for refusing to follow schizoid directives. It’s visceral and personal partly autobiographical explaining my working class background and fight to tell the truth about what I was convinced was a hoax since proven.

We’d love to have you. We have other doctors coming as well. Early bird discount expires on July 31. Hope you’ll join us! https://www.maitriverde.com/writing-under-the-tuscan-sun

Sounds good to get Social over Art & Music. Food is always there somewhere as well and I like to eat healthy. Meeting a possible husband is even exciting i would think. Deon

This comment made me smile. And I need all the smiles I can get. So thank you. And … might you check back and let us know when you plan your next cultural excursion, if you feel so inclined? 🚗 💨 (I’d post a walk emoji because I’m all about walking and biking, if one is physically able, but it doesn’t have the same visual vibe…)

Just to note that Nolan's film is not a "Greek epic". There are no Greek actors in it, and the story has been modified such that it is only "loosely based" on Homer's original, with the changes apparently in support of a political/religious agenda.

Jennifer Margulis's avatar

Thank you for this note. I haven't seen the film. I likely won't see it. What did you think of it, Tim? What kind of political/religious agenda was/is it promoting, in your opinion?

A good article that goes into more depth:

"And this is why things like the subversion of culture as we’ve seen with the trivial-seeming mucking about with The Odyssey are not neutral acts. They’re part of a wider program to undermine the very foundations and understanding of who we are, and who we are not. I haven’t seen Nolan’s Odyssey, but I understand it to be actually quite a good movie overall - at least that seems to be the majority view."

Been thinking about how to respond succinctly.

The primary political agenda I see is to denigrate white males. The northern European male actors in the movie are either bad guys or have ptsd and guilt (e.g. Odysseus from his part in the sacking of Troy).

The religious agenda:

* there are no greek gods per se, they are all "psychological manifestations", hallucinations or interpretations of natural phenomenon. Is this to support that there are no gods, they are a delusion? Or that we live in a simulation?

* race-swapping. The most beautiful woman in the world is black, not European. The crew is mixed, no actual Greek actors. At one point, an obviously not-Greek actor says "We're Greeks from Ithaca". Is this all from a belief that we all have Greek ancestry? Is all this predictive programming that that's where the world is heading, to replace Greeks and Europeans? Or sigil magic, to make it come true?

* gender swapping. A female-to-male trans plays a Greek soldier. Is this supporting the Kabbalah, and its idea that we're suppose to return to our pure ancestral androgeny?

When I engaged with Dr. Lissa Rankin back in 2012 or so she woke me up to social isolation as the next health epidemic. Add that to social media fueled by COVID...life could get real short. Thanks for reminding me to be in life!

What are the kinds of in real life activities you enjoy most? Are any of them cultural? Some people would rather have a head cold than go to a museum or art opening…
