I had just moved back to Germany in December 2020 after eight years in South Africa and nearly dying from liver failure (tick bite) there. I was confused and scared about the political pressure to get the vaccine, and nobody could give me any information about any risks for my liver, so I didn't get the vaccine. I was in trouble at work, lost a friend or two who thought I was being dramatic, almost got kicked out of a doctor's practice for saying the words "not vaccinated," and life, in general, was getting increasingly uncomfortable, to put it mildly. I was not allowed into certain shops anymore, restaurants, or hotels. It was scary.
I am sorry you were treated that way. It was very similar in many states in the United States. The West Coast--California, Oregon, and Washington state--was among the worst. These issues have divided families, cost unvaccinated people their jobs, identities, and livelihoods, and broken friendships and communities apart. It's like a lot of people collectively forgot how to be kind to each other. It's all very sad.
People who held strong, who held the line, people who “no I’m not doing that,” will always have that on their resume. I know how hard it was to do that. I appreciate every who held there ground.

I've found that (now), people will believe the Covid shots are ineffective and potentially harmful, but eyes glaze over at the idea that a vaccine can make you more likely to get the disease. I hope repeated messaging will get through to people, but it's strangely difficult.

We have also found this to be true with serial flu vaccines. They're notorious for the lack of efficacy (as are, now, the COVID vaccines) but that flu vaccines can make the host more primed to get the flu is something people are very uncomfortable with.
